Motor has been well maintained, have noticed a drain in the battery if left sitting for a while. Lately, have had to jump start, have changed plugs, but still didn't work, will start and run in idle mode. When in open water, when trying to plain out, just goes into a muffled suond and speeds up a little, but not what it should be doing. Any advice is helpful.

I am getting tried of waxing my boat! I thought there was a process where the boat yard could put a clear coat over the hull?
It is a blue hull and it shows the water spots!

I have a 22 foot fibreglass cruiser with a Mercruiser sterndrive. I want to fit an auxiliary motor and was considering a 7.5 HP.Is this sufficient? I need to fit a mounting bracket and need to know the correct location . How far should the propellor sit in the water. I would imagine the same level as the main prop?

Like title says 1987 Erude XP150 alarm at WOT only, this only occurs when I run WOT, either after on plane or from dead stop. I can run 40-45 for 15 miles at a time and no alarms, but if I push it to WOT buzzer sounds, seems to be solid buzzer , If I back off back to 35-40 the buzzer goes off.

Replaced Thermo Stats and water pump couple months ago. VRO pump disconnected by service guy b4 i bought this boat.
Ive seen a few posts on other boards that mention fuel restriction issues, and someone mentioned a vacuum sensor ? I couldn't find anything in manual about a vacuum sensor.. I need someone to go with me to monitor bulb to see if its getting flat at WOT. so until I can get some one to go .. I don't know about that one. someone else mention anti back flow in tank. or how to test some of the above suggestions given to me previously

Any suggestions I haven't tried or done already?

Thanx , Sean

does a single control wire to a solenoid make sense? the neighbor will give me a boat for a good deal after I get it running. There is only one small guage wire going to the remote solenoid, and the main feed (12V) is perfect and so is the feed to the starter from the solenoid. I have no wiring diagram. its a 1989 ske centurion with a 351. Can't get the solenoid to kick, regrounded it to the engine, etc.

I have a ford Lehman diesel (120 hp) I have used the boat a few times this year - usually for longer trips (10 hours or so) and last time out noticed oil in the well - when I checked it was 5 quarts low. The boat is not really smoking so I don't think any is getting burned - is it just getting warm on the long rides and leaking from the oil pan? any help would be great

I have a 1987 Phantom fish&ski with a 3.0 OMC four cylinder. Most of the parts are GM, like the block and carb(Rochester). I have the points-type distributor that has a stripped out screw holding the points in place. Will a regular dist. from a 4 cyl. GM work? If so, what make and model of vehicle would interchange?

We left it in the water (fresh) over the weekend and it came out with a scummy bottom which doesn't wash off with just elbow grease and soapy water. Any ideas? Someone told us softscrub but I fear it could be too abrasive. Thanks for your help!!

How much horse-power does it take to pull a boat about 2,000 pounds? Can most SUV's pull that? Or if I installed a hitch on my mini-van, could that pull it? Thanks.

After doing some research, I have determined to replace the motor with a like type inline 4 or 6 cyl engine. Seems that the design of the merc 470 leaves alot to be desired with the water pump - cam seal problems and lack of available parts. So I will remove this engine and replace with another type/manufacturer. What would be a good direct bolt up motor to install in the 170-200 HP range? Closed cooling would be good, since that is what is going on now. The boat has the stock tranny/outdrive attached to the present 470. I do not want to change these.....they are fine. I also do not want to spend thousands on doing the motor change-out, since the boat is almost 30 years old (in great shape) and I will sell later this summer for a larger boat. I don't want to sell this for any more than a reasonable amount without tearing my butt. Any ideas?

I have an old 17' fiberglass canoe that has no edge supports anymore, no way to attach seats. The wood all rotted off, I bought this canoe from a former co-worker in this condition. I've heard of an extruded aluminum frame that can be mounted to the canoe edge, but haven't found a place to buy it. Anyone have any recommendations for repairing an old fiberglass canoe? I haven't had much luck locally finding any canoe or kayak places that specialize in this ( northern Virginia ). Thanks!
