If using a electric fuel pump you have to run a by pass hose around the ele fuel pump as not to build pressure at the carburetor an activate it from a oil pressure switch that is called normally open switch when engine is not ruining ,an when oil pressure builds when cranking the fuel pump turns on. Best to replace the fuel pump with a mechanical MARINE fuel pump not a automotive one. Unless yours is high performance and needs the extra fuel .The cost is less.

If you are going to substitute parts, make sure the pump you use is certified J1171 for marine use. This is important because pumps not designed & mfg to meet the certification may be a fire hazard on a boat .

As long as it is certified, it should work, but depending on the pressure requirements of the carbs or injection may have to be dialed in to the correct pressure if it is internally regulated or you may need to add a regulator if it isnt.

Generally fuel pumps are inexpensive and your best bet is a replacement from the mfg or one that meets the mfg specs.

It should work, but it has to be coast guard approved and you'll need to leave the old fuel pump on the motor or put a plate over the hole.
