For small, row-boat-size boats (12 to 14 feet), how does one go about choosing an outboard with the right horsepower? Keep in mind this boat will be used for lake fishing for one or two adults.

I was planning on joining the coast guard to go into marine engine repair, but i just got the opportunity to apply for both aviation and marine repair in my area....which has more potential for growth as in eventually opening my own business or just in the long run making more money? the aviation is primarily airbuses and the marine is on large vessels.

I have wrote a few questions about my engine running a little hot - since, I have cleaned out the heat exchanger, and replaced the impellor on the water pump, cleaned the water grate or filter between the pick up and pump - but it still seems to be running at about 185 - water is pumping out of the exhaust great - better then I have ever seem it - coolant level seems fine, what could be the issue?

I have had an issue where Antifreeze is spitting out out the Radiator cap when running the engine at 3000- 4000 RPM while underway . This does not happen at the dock, only when there is a load on the engine. I noticed that part of the lip of the Fresh Water Reservoir where the radiator cap goes on is missing, thus not giving the cap something to hold it down on one side. I found a replacement part, and I'm currently in the process of replacing it.

After removing the Reservoir, I notice that the Antifreeze level in the Manifold was low, less than half full. Should the Antifreeze level be up to the top before I put the New Reservoir back on?

Also, if this does not fix the problem, aside from over hearting issues, what else could make the Antifreeze leak out of the cap while underway.

Thanks!

I'm wondering how big of a boat I can conceivably trailer if I have the power to do so with my truck. I'm looking at cruisers and notice that once you get a beam greater than 8'-6" you typically are not trailering and getting a slip somewhere. YET, I'm finding boats on yachtworld.com that have a 10' beam that are pictured on a tri-axle trailer. I'm confused.

I used to water ski when I was younger using a traditional boat. I'd like to water ski again, but would like a pwc instead due to towing / size / cost constraints.

Seems like storage would be a problem on PWCs as well. Has anybody come up with solutions (folding skis?) for PWC owners that want to water ski?

I have a 15 hp outboard motor on my boat, its way too slow as is, let alone having 5 people on board. As i don't have money at the moment to get a bigger one, is there anyway i can add a few more hp cheaply and without destroying my engine?

I had no spark then I replaced the coil and condenser and managed to get a small JOLT but still nothing at the plug I am new to this but I have fixed my share of motors in the past. could it be the magnets on the fly wheel? Do I just have to ajust the clearance between the magnets and coil? is there a step I missed or another part I need to check (the plug is new of course) thanks for the advice on the points but it seems to be right on with your last suggestion any other ideas

I frequently boat in Lake Erie (out of the PA portion) and on hot, calm days we often anchor the boat and swim nearby it. I was just wondering if it was actually prohibited or not, I looked through authority handbooks and websites but couldn't really find a clear-cut answer and was just wondering... it is legal to tube and water-ski so I wouldn't think it would be a problem so long as you stayed nearby your boat, thanks in advance.
