I frequently boat in Lake Erie (out of the PA portion) and on hot, calm days we often anchor the boat and swim nearby it. I was just wondering if it was actually prohibited or not, I looked through authority handbooks and websites but couldn't really find a clear-cut answer and was just wondering... it is legal to tube and water-ski so I wouldn't think it would be a problem so long as you stayed nearby your boat, thanks in advance.

Legal isnt an issue, but for safety purposes, you should keep someone on the boat (sober) to keep a look out for other boats that may be speeding by. They can blow a horn or call them on the radio to let them know that there are swimmers in the water. they should also have a type 4 (throwable) PFD handy in case someone gets into trouble.

Diving flag wouldnt be a bad idea to fly off an antenna or something tall to also warn others that people are in the water. I wouldnt run the engine while people are swimming either.

I may be a little over cautious, but better safe than sorry.

you should have PFD's on, and as mentioned above (someone sober on board), what if you get pulled away from the boat ? It's NOT a good idea.
"Drowning" is NEVER "IN".

As far as I know yes, as long as you aren't anchoring where skiers are, or boats are speeding by, have fun.
