Had electrical fire and need to lower the unit to get the cover off.

What kind of Eng,Johnson mercury starboard side intermediate housing that bolted to the transom there is a hole look inside there is a screw turn it will by pass oil an lower the Eng. I wouldn't take the hose off to drain the system or you have fits lifting the Eng up to fill the pump.

look on the bottom of your trim cylinder there should be a plug you can take out and slowly let your engine down. Put a bucket under the cylinder are you will have a nasty mess. Another way you can do it is to trace the two wires for the trim and touch them to a hot battery, if the motor goes up then switch the wires and it should go down. good luck

On the Pump, look on the bottom for a knob to turn, sometimes this work. If, not, it bucket time. Get a bucket and on the rams loosen the hose fittings enough to let it go down. After it all fixed you can re-tighten everything and bleed to air out.

all makes have a by-pass. it might be port or stbd., but all have an access hole down low on the mounting bracket.
