I asked yesterday if anybody knew where I could find manuals and schematics on outboard motors that I colud view online, I got quite a few answers however they were all for mercury, and I failed to mention that I have a '67 Johnson and a 70 chrysler outboard I am working on, so if anybody knows of a website or an online library that I can go to to find that information I'd be grateful. Thank You

Looking to buy a 17-20 foot used boat. To give you an idea of what style I like, a Sea Ray 180 or Bayliner. Not really into the center consoles like the Mako and Boston Whaler. Boat to be used in the ocean on weekends and stored in a garage on its trailer.

Would you go with the straight outboard engine or is a inboard/outboard ok? Have heard the outboards are more designed for saltwater use and the in/out are car engines (and more difficult to work on.

What are some things to look for and how old is too old?

Been focussing my search on 1998 to current and trying to be under the $12k range with a trailer and the normal accessories.

I have a 26' cruiser, my holding tank is at 75% capacity now. I have a marcerator, when I hit the switch to empty, I hear a stirring sound that last about 3 seconds and then it shuts off. Below the switch is a bubble like reset switch which trips. So I press the reset and try again and the samething happens. There is a very small blue green discharge on the side of the boat. What should I do or what should I look for?

It sometimes sounds appealing to me.

The permanent tranquility and the distance from the everyday troubles...

The problem is the logistics, or paying a high rent every month if you are anchored in a marina.

A friend of mine just purchased a sail boat and is trying to come up with a good name. He is recently divorced, starting over, and I'm trying to come up with something that reflects these new beginnings for him. Can you help?

This is a 20ft sail boat and is getting painted soon - so the name needs to be picked before the paint!

Are large ships such as a container ship being built with stabilizer fins and thrusters to hover in anchorages instead of the anchor and chain? I can't remember the name of the show but it showed the CMA-CGM Hugo, A very large containership and if im correct the guy mentioned that the ship was built with stabilizers and thrusters instead of an anchor and chain. Does anyone know if this is true? And if so were can I find an article or pictures of ships that currently have such systems.

When looking at the collision regulations, most make sense ie sail having priority over power, windward vessel giving way ... but who (and why) made the arbitrary decition of strarboard having priority over port??

i have a 1972 mercury 9.8 hp outboard. its is in mint condition becuase i only use it every few years. \i hadnt ran it since 3 years ago and i got gas, put in new plugs and it started right up. i left it in nuetral and let it warm up for a few minutes. it seemed fine. i started accelerating and eventually reached top speed. it went for a bout a minute then died and there was steam pouring out of the water hose (tthe one that gets rid of the water the engine alreay cooled) was hissing and pouring out steam. i let it cool for a few minutes then brought it back to my beach. when i was bringing it back it was getting power gaps- like it would go -vrromm and then it would slow down and then take off again while i had the throttle steady. any ideas what is wrong. thanks alot

1949 Johnson 10 HP motor. Uses double fuel line and connector. I have both, but can't get the motor running, even though the person we bought it from tested it and it worked. I think the problem is definitely with how we are attempting to get gas from the pressurized (how do we know for sure it's a pressurized tank??--it appears to be) fuel tank into the motor.
