I have a 26' cruiser, my holding tank is at 75% capacity now. I have a marcerator, when I hit the switch to empty, I hear a stirring sound that last about 3 seconds and then it shuts off. Below the switch is a bubble like reset switch which trips. So I press the reset and try again and the samething happens. There is a very small blue green discharge on the side of the boat. What should I do or what should I look for?

Sounds like you have a discharge problem, not a problem with the macerator itself. If it comes on, then its probably working.

Follow the lines from the holding tank to the macerator. Then from the macerator to the through hull. Make sure that the seacock (the valve that is right on the inside of the hull) is open before you run the macerator as well as the y valve (which should have a lock on it, and should be locked in the NO Discharge mode)

Also, You cant/shouldnt discharge overboard into inland waters. There should be a plackard on your vessel with discharge zones on it. Follow the plackard and having this plackard posted on the vessel is a legal requirement.

Now that you've worked that out, find a marina that has a pump out station and use that. Usually where you get fuel. Sometimes they are free but may cost 5 bucks or so. There are also companies who come out to your boat while its at the dock and pump out your holding tank using a cart with a gas powered machine on it. This costs 20-25 bucks.

Depends hows it plumed in to the boat. But you have to open a valve to discharge over the side. If it shutting off than it might be plugged with paper an stuff.Pull discharge hose off an clean it out. Then try running again.Check your area as dumping overboard is prohibited in shore.

The "macerator" chops up stuff before it enters the holding tank. It usually around close to your toilet. As you move the handle up and down it chops everything up.
If, you use too much paper it can clog and then need cleared.
Below not the best link but it helps. The big problem is people understanding how it works and this why they get clogged.

what ever you do, please wear rubber gloves!!! this stuff can be pretty toxic! hepatitis, etc - so be careful! good luck!

i have used a 5 gallon bucket before, on a boat i raced a lot. this discouraged the ladies from using the head so much! reduced a lot of head aches for the boat owner.
