Rango is right on EXCEPT - He forgot to take into account the color of the boat !!!! ..... Red is usually the best color .. but if it clashes with the primary colors of the boat, you will be in deep dung ... unless you double the number of cans of play dough ... or you could get a color wheel out and determine the correct color that will not clash with your boat and get the prescribed number of cans and do ok....
unless, of course you want to build a moat. Then You have to get all the right permits first !!!

Well, I am not sure aboutr purple play doh but you can build a pretty good moat from 10 to 12 cans of red play doh. I think they will be about the same. Check with the play doh institute of engineering.
