More info on coracles - you can see them being used on the Severn (demo purposes) at Ironbridge. I believe that there are still a few people in that are who use them seriously.
There is a guy who makes them, for demo purposes again, at the small Bewdley museum (nr. the Safari Park) in Worcestershire.

coracle, i've made a few.
ash/willow or hazel lathes. push them into the gound, make the coracle upside down, weave willow withies around the top , take it out of the grouns, stretch calico across it, apply several coats of cold tar bitumen.
easy - one days work and 20 years fun

"Coracle" made from stretched animal skin over a willow frame, the animal skin is coated in bitchumen/tar though possibly not with tar when first made by post stoneage man.They were propelled by 1 oar, placed in the water and moved in a figure 8 motion.
