In Texas, what is the rule or law on area lakes for living on a houseboat as it pertains to drinking on the water? Is it permissible? What about while docked or in a slip?

Please, could someone explain the following I have read:
- dead centre channel ('find the navigational solution for dead centre channel' says the captain, when sailing under a bridge)
- 10 degrees right rudder to 262
-"is that channel clear"? (what does he mean?)

On a 18' sea pro. the fuel gauge doesnt work. Under the center console all the wires seem to be in place except for one out of place purple wire. Its just hanging there not attached to anything. Could that be why the gauge isnt working. Also i heard the float may be stuck. i cant find it. where on the boat would it be? what can be done to try and fix the fuel gauge?

On the past few Carnival cruises I've taken I've noticed that when we're in port on the bow of the ship there is a red flag flying with a blue circle in the center surrounded by a white circle. Am I correctly assuming this means the ship is "docked in port"?

I have a 1964 Evinrude Lark 40hp I need info on where the timming should be set and how to adjust the carb, where to start and what to listen for.
Also I have a 1964 Johnson 50hp, not sure of the model, it has 85 lbs of compression in one cylinder and 25 in the other. What could be the reason for this other than rings.
If you could give me some links to this info or the info its self I would be so greatful. Thanks

Do you have to have boat insurance. If so how much would a bow rider style boat, 21 ft, fiberglass/composite hull, worth 5,995.00 cost? Will be using on the Mississippi and some lakes. What do some other people pay?

Boat was runnig fine and then I had an oil change and tune up inlcuding new wiring distributer and cap. Now when I am in gear and trolling every so often my rpm drops 150 to 200 rpm and then come back up. The rpm drops for 3 or 4 seconds only.
When cruising there is no drop at all and it runs like a clock.

It almost feels like someone is pinching of the fuel for a couple of seconds.

Any ideas on what the cause may be??

Thanks Dennis

I think I might have lost a flapper valve in one of my exhaust risers. Where is this flapper located? Just after the riser's elbow? The reason I think this is that I was skiing on Saturday and everything was fine on the way down and while skiing. By fine I mean I was able to get ~5000RPM at WOT. On the way back all I got was 4100rpm at WOT. It even felt like it bogged a bit as I approached WOT. At about 70% throttle position I pulled 4100rpm easily but as I pushed past 70% rpms made no change and you could hear a slight tone difference and it might have dropped 50 or so rpm. If you think I'm off the mark with a broken exhaust flapper valve lemme know. Thanks.

I want to just remove safely, to apply new vinyl. I will not be able to repaint any base (metal, aluminum) so sanding is out.
Is there any sure way? Hot high pressure washer? Solutions?
Again, the RV skin cannot be damaged at all. Please help.

The Foam lining in the engine cowling / cover got trashed, ( org was open cell foam approx. 3/8 thick ).Need to replace it bad (70 hp johnson ). Looked over the net already. Saw someone had used " Great Stuff " expanding spray foam in a car. Yes, I'll sand it down to about 1 Inch thick for clearance. I need to hear from other boat owners / Mechanic's.
Biggest concern is at what temp. will this stuff catchfire or smolder. 3 miles from shore is no place for that.
Thanks.

Have a 25 HP Mercury outboard on a 17 foot stick-steer Bass Tracker. It starts easily and Idles smoothly, but when I hit approx 1/2 throttle, it is like it starts running on only 1 cylinder and won't rev past that point. I have cleaned the carb, replaced the pump diaphrams, have new fuel/oil mix,new plugs(surface gap)and the compression is approx 130 psi on both cylinders. I am quite used to working with small engines and motorcycles but I just dont know what else to do or adjust! I know that the engine needs to be in water and have a load on it to be able to adjust it correctly but it is a big "PAIN" to have to keep taking it to the lake. I run it on dry land with the water adapter on it, but no load. Please help with any suggestions for adjustments or settings and get this old man on the water again...lol ;-} Thanks in advance!

I need to find out what kind of boat I am being given. It says its a Chapperal 18 ( The last number(s) could be missing). The current owner says its about 30 years old. Well to me a free boat is worth the restore. We saw it and its not in bad shape. Needs some TLC, but I need to find a site, that might have some info on my old boat. I checked the official website, and they dont have anything older than what they are selling. I would like to retore it to its original state, but need to find out what the heck I am looking for.

I have a Johnson 8 HP 2-cycle outboard engine on an aging Sears aluminum boat. I'm really the only one in the family that uses the boat, and I'm only in the area (on Lake Winnipesaukee) for a few weeks in the summer. Last summer, after I had been using the boat just fine for a couple weeks, I took it out one day and as I brought it in to dock, the motor died. We took the motor to get serviced at a local marina, and they told us that they fixed the issue, but when we mounted it back onto the boat, the motor continued to die. We gave it to them to work on over the winter, and the mechanics at the marina rebuilt the carburetor (is that the right spelling?) and replaced the gas tank and fuel line. Afterwards, as in, this summer, the motor worked excellent, better than ever before. It's been working since the beginning of the summer, but after I filled up the gas tank today, I was about to take it downtown, and as I pulled away from the dock the motor died. Any ideas on the cause? Thanks!

I am thinking of taking sailing lessons and buying a boat. I live near the water and I am thinking of getting a 27 footer and keeping it at the marina down the street. Of course I can't afford the 30' Bavaria but I am thinking of a cheaper used starter. Any suggestions??
