I have a 1964 Evinrude Lark 40hp I need info on where the timming should be set and how to adjust the carb, where to start and what to listen for.
Also I have a 1964 Johnson 50hp, not sure of the model, it has 85 lbs of compression in one cylinder and 25 in the other. What could be the reason for this other than rings.
If you could give me some links to this info or the info its self I would be so greatful. Thanks

Set the trim so the Eng is straight up & down The adj on the carb was on the front plate if gone than turn in till soft stop.don't twist it hard back out 2 turns an go from there turn in to lean out for more fuel high & low the same.Pull chock make sure in netual, pump fuel bulb till full try starting .Have water on.This eng is 45 to 1 oil gas .The other Eng pull the head an see if the gasket is blown an you can see the piston turn flywheel till piston is at the bottom look for groves in cyc .Check well ?I no groves piston looks good replace head gasket.Reasemble.
