Look into one-designs like J-22 , J-24 & others ( Catalina )that are actively raced in your area in a fleet. And / or hang out on race day at a nearby sailing club to find one or two that interest you... The one-design class association website will have plenty of info on new/used boats & will be happy to hook you up for a ride. Then do some networking among the fleet. One -designs that are actively raced insure a ready market for new/used boats, & a wealth of info on maintenance , weak areas , rigging etc.

Talk to a rigging shop they can give you an idea of good boats as they repair them.
