my father's engine (think evenrude 25HP) decided not to start while out on the water so he had to pull the case off and pullstart it to get back to the pier. after coming home it still wouldnt start and we couldnt get it to start with the ripcord either from once the engine was cold.

checked battery - ok

when he turns the key we were hearing a rapid click sound but the starter didnt shoot up or turn. he figured it was the starter.

my uncle came over and wanted to try something so he hotwired the starter directly with some jumper cables and it started up right away twice. so they decided it must be the solenoid.

but after that my father tried the key again for the hell of it and now that works fine, the thing just instantly starts. we are wondering what it could be because he is saying he will take it out on the water again if it continues to work but wanted to get the extra part if he could figure out what it was that was causing the problem.

any idea?

I've been wondering...hearing things like the Titanic eventually disintegrating is sad.
Do you think they would be able to raise the Titanic out of the water?
Is it possible?

We're currently looking for boat between 25-32 ft. As new as possible. I'm all about looks and comfort and my husbands all about the name and engine. We live here in Miami and would use it pretty often. We have 2 small daughters (4 & 8 yrs old) and want something comfortable enough for us to all be in . We might be able to stretch the budget another $5k or so but I rather stay under $45K. What are your suggestions? Serious answers only please. Thanks.

I have a 86 75hp merc. outboard and my bottom carb doesn't constantly pump gas and I was wandering if my reed valves could be a factor.

Ok heres what i have done.
I have removed the drive replaced the gimble bearing and all the bellows and the boots and the water line, drive oil line and had the shift cable adjusted.
It all back together last nite and ran it on water muffs in my drive way.
shifts perfect however when i shifted it in foward and ran it up to 1500 rpm's it was vibrating some and it vibrated somewhat when it was in netural also.
I just dont know if its right i dont have time to take it to the lake till next week however i dont want to break something.
By the way this was the hardest repair i have ever done to anything.
Any help would be aprecitated
