50:1 is 50 parts gas to 1 part oil. They sell Outboard oil in a 16 ounce can. When mixed with 6 gallons of gas it give you a 50:1 mix. Always read the mixing instructions until you learn.
To learn more about this. Go to the Chain Saw section of Wal-Wort and look at the oil there. Many of these bottles give a variety of mixes due to different engines. You can read and see how 16:1, 32:1 etc. work in ounces of oil to gallons of gas.

Ok the recomended mix if its an older motor is 50:1 I race boats and I actually run my motor at 40:1 40:1 means 40 parts oil to on part gas. so if you have 40 gallons of gas you need 1 gallon of oil . make sure you use the correct outboard oil.

You can go to your local wal-mart and look in the boating/fishing section and they should have fuel to oil mixture bottles. They usually sell for about 3 to 4 bucks. Anyway, on that bottle is a chart that you can go by. you want to use the 50:1 chart.
