I am a first-time boat owner, bought a 1970 Arrowglass Cheetah 17 1/2' with Mercury 115 outboard... would appreciate any operational / safety advice. I have had extensive automotive training, but no marine experience whatsoever.

I'm not planning on getting one, but I am curious. What is the smallest size sail/powerboat that would be realistic and comfortable as a permanent home for two or three people. This boat will travel, it is not docked for ever.
A 12-foot rowboat is not what I'm looking for, it is not realistic nor comfortable.
Thanks.

As I understand it it sank because to many compartments in the hull were breached. If there had just been one almighty smash would it and the passengers survived

( Yes, I know Rose and Jack would probably been killed coz they were up at the stern )

Would an ordinary waterproof cover be enough or should it be more elaborately contructed for snow/ice runoff?
Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks in advance

from my research, I know I can take a Coast Guard class...but that is just class time...I want to learn how to physically operate a boat. Does anyone know where I can do this?

Also, do you know where I can rent a boat once I learn? I really want to learn so I can go out in the intercoastal and swim...so suggest the type of boat too......if you figured it out by now I am a complete rookie.
