I know this sounds weird, but I live on an island, and work in a town on the mainland. I just want to make sure I've covered all my options - as it is, I'm using a motorboat, but it uses fuel. It only takes about 15 minutes to cross the bay, but I think one hour would be OK, too. Any ideas? I'd like to go more environmentally friendly.

Hi there, here are the outlines and specs of the boat, I am curious of a price that it would sell for!

Needs:
New antifouling paint, (Hull is in good condition as well as keel)
Depthsounder & knot meter doesn't work, no compass, main sail has a 2' tear near top of mast, stove has been removed but sink still works, cracks in fiberglass around the tiller bar mounting point, doesn't have a bilge pump, 2 small leaks around toe rails., cracks throughout the deck but not through to the cabin and it needs a new lifeline., no trailer for it.

Good points,
Genoa and spinnaker in excellent condition, fully functional head that has just been fixed, cushions in excellent condition, cabin is good shape; all around actually, honda 8hrspwr outboard in good shape, wiring is so so but functional, only had 2 owners in its lifetime, father and than son, so it has been maintanted fairly well for a year round in water boat in Vancouver.

Any info would be greatly appreciated on the subject

If the compression is ok at 85-95 in my 83 johnson 150, then why am I only getting half power at full throttle, I had a bad coil wire, which I changed all 6, thought that would fix the problem, but it did not. Should I go into the carbuerators next?

I am considering buying a 1979 San Juan 24' from a friend of mine. He is asking $5000 (CAN) for her and it is in fairly good condition. I am wondering the opinion of his asking price. It does not have any electronic naviagtion and the hull and keel are in excellent condtion.

As well I am wondering about finding any manuals for her or recomended maintenance books.

How can I find out if the name I wish to call her is being used as well? It has never been insured so does it matter about the name?

Also, wondering about any information in regards to installing a stove, and solar panel charging system. ( ie. style, best type, brand names etc.. )

Thanks for the help.

i'm writing a story, and part of it has this hotshot guy being captain on a boat, one of those nice ones that are pretty big. not a sailboat, more like a speedboat. (like the one in You'veGotMail, like the biggest boat that was named 'Fox', something like that) anyone have any advice about boating, or anything? if anyone knows the terms for the crew, like who's next in 'importance' after the captain. or anything else would be useful. just to make it sound like i know what i'm talking about when writing the chapter, even though i don't.
any advice would be fantastic!

Mercman you have been a big help. My boat won't start. It turns over really nice when the spark plugs are out but not when they are in. I noticed water in the engine (milky oil). What can I do to fix this problem? I bought the boat from a guy a few weeks ago. I was told that I needed to replace the exhaust manifolds and it should run fine. I replaced to have a non-running boat. I guess the old manifolds broke leaving water in the engine. He turned it over when I went to buy it but now its a no go. Please help. Thanks for everything!!!!!!
