I have been living aboard my 38' sailboat for over 6 years. 5 years ago my girlfriend, now my wife moved aboard. We have 2 cats who share our space. The traps are endless. It is basically camping without the dirt. We both moved from large houses and the live-aboard experience has been quite liberating but frustrating. You will have to downsize like You cannot imagine. You will need a storage unit nearby to keep seasonal 'stuff' and whatever you you need but cannot have on board. I would recommend subscribing to Liveaboard magazine. There are always good tips in that rag. Some people adjust to the change quickly and others never do. What will you do about showers? Toilet? (call it the head). Condensation WILL BE A PROBLEM!! Get a dehumidifier.!!! Soleus makes the smallest one we could find. As for the large dog.... there are several folks in our marina with dogs on board. Most are small but several are in the collie size range and everyone seems quite happy. Where will You walk the dog?? need more ?? send a message ..

I only lived aboard for 9 months. I have to say it was the best place I have ever lived. I was alone on a 29 Foot Lancer. I had to refit her on the fly for liveaboard. I noticed that the dining table was in the way (I removed mine. The V berth was too small. I tore out my hanging locker and my drawers and expanded the space. I didn't need all the seating area so I built a large chart table on the starboard side along with a cabinet for my frig, microwave, and a locker for can goods. Under the chart table I have TONS of room from every stitch of cloths I own 3X over. I bought a soft "Closet" and hang it from a large dowel I installed in the head (that for work cloths I can just stow in the chart table locker,Good thing the head is orderless). If I can do it is a 29, it will be a snap for you in a 35... Good luck...Jim

No time for good stories, but a few hints. Use water sparingly. There is not room to recycle. Do you have a refrigerator or ice box? Learn to cook with canned, smoked and dried meats. Fresh will not keep more than 2 or 3 days in an ice box. If you bring a new item onto the boat, get rid of an old one. We have cruised the Great Lakes and Chesapeake and lived summers on our 30 footer for years. If you get along with your partner the boat is big enough, if you don't there is no boat big enough.

Sorry no. I have spent a week on mine but I am claustrophobic. A week was enough to know I like a variety of clothes & food too much to live on board. LOL
