Yes Capt, I see it. Sneaky. But anyway, that little "6hp", as old as it is, shouldn't be ran on less than a 50 to 1 mix. If it's been rebuilt you might play around a little bit.

It should be a 6 hp from 1977. That should be 50:1.

early 1980's they flirted with 100:1, but 50:1 is recommended from evinrude. that is just a bit over 6 gallons to 1 pint 2 stroke oil rated tcw-3.

the best way to find out is to get a manual from a marina or marine supply outlet ,with out hp its difficult to tell , some of the earlier motors were recommended at a 40:1 ratio but these motors were also designed to run on leaded fuel(lead provides a minimal amount of lubrication) ,though led additives can be bought ,it may be easier to adjust the oil fuel ratio to 50:1
listen to what cap ,link and mercman have to say ,ive ben working with a 65 Johnson and they haven't failed me yet (Johnson and evenrude are both bombardier products )

2 cycle motors will do just fine on a 24:1 ratio. Any motor built after around 1965 will run fine on 50:1 mix. For this ratio, I strongly recommend a quality name brand TCW III lubricant.

Well, I'd ask at a boat shop if it were me. Generally for a 2 stroke, the ratio is between 40 to 50 to 1.

50 to 1 seems more common. If you get too little, your engine won't be lubricated and will run hot and fail. If you get too much, it will smoke and foul the plugs.

DOES ANYBODY ELSE SEE A PATTERN TO ALL THESE OIL MIX QUESTIONS - (and others)
They always give a year - a short model number - and a brand
- But never a horse power
And when you look at their profile they are new and usually only have ONE question and No answers .. .. ..
