depends what size the boat is and what you wanna use the boat for. Fishing???buy a bas motor, they run on battery, and are pretty cheap...slow speed though but get you from a-z....

Sure! Call junkyards in cities close to water, check on eBay, et cetera. Thousands of unused, very good outboard motors are sitting in old boats all across the country. Sometimes the price is set and sometimes, you tell the attendant what price you want to pay. Usually, though it is self serve at junkyards and you will have to retrieve the motor yourself. My Dad... I don't think he's ever bought a new part in his life.

Just keep in mind the two happiest days in a boat owners life: the day you got the boat and the day you sell it to some one else. Old worn Boat motors leave you stranded out in the middle of the lake so purchase wisely and ride with some one who has a motor for sale that is still mounted on a tramsom.

It's according to what you mean by "cheap". There are a lot of good suggestions posted here... from yard sales to auctions. I've towed many boats with bargain engines back to the docks. Always remember that you get what you pay for! Good Luck.

Try looking in the free ads in your local newspaper. You can also go to some boating stores and find a used one, If they dont carry them im sure they could point you in the right direction.....Take a look at Ebay also, although shipping costs might be more than the motor itself

I would suggest you try garage sells and estate auctions. New outboards are expensive. I have seen them go at an auction for less than $10.00 running.

No. But you can find a slightly used engine in good condition at a reasonable price. The best brands are Johnson or Yamaha.
