I think your boat was rated at a 115. Look on the capacity plate by the helm, that will tell you the max horsepower you can safely install.

Check with the boats manufacturer it also depends on the motor older motors tend to be a bit heavier also depends on where the 150hp is measured at the prop or the engine power head newer motors tend to be rated at the prop but contact the hull maker to be sure hope this helps a bit !

I have one myself, and it's maximum is 115 hp, which is what I have on it--runs beautiful. Yours shouldn't be different. Mine's a 17 footer, too.

check capacity plate, don't over power the boat, the transom will break, and the motor will go past you, as you are sinking,
