Ok, I am a college student. With all the work from school, I didn't get a job till I was 20 years old, Summer 2006. I worked for about a month and made about $1600 after all the taxes they took off on the checks itself. Well I didn't file a tax return/claim that was due 4/15/07. I honestly am not even sure how all this works. I heard if you make less that $5000, you don't have to file for taxes. Am I out of the clear? I didn't have my second job till this Summer 2007 and made about $2200 after taxes, do I have to file this year? These jobs have been the only income ever, all other money I got was allowance and what not from family. I never got a letter from the IRS, but then again I have moved since then, but I do get my mail forwarded. Do I have anything to worry about? I understand if I owed money I would be in big trouble, but how do I know if I owe money, and how do I know if I get a refund, and tax deductions. Please help me out. I don't mind no refund but I don't wanna pay fines.

I have held two jobs this year at different times, but was not employeed the entire year. I made roughly roughly 8 grand at the first job, and two grand at the current one. I am eighteen years old living on a budget and have claimed zero. What can i expect for tax returns this year? its just a question of curiosity, nothing really hinges on it. Thanks

I have tried to figure out the IRS website, but can not make sense of it. If I am working overseas from January to end of July being paid by another country whilst working in another do I have to pay tax to the US? if the country I am being paid by pays it into a bank in that country and I transfer money, would I declare it, or better to just have it paid direct into a US bank and they see it, or do I also have to declare it. Somewhere I read it said up to 85.000 and you do not have to pay tax if your out a whle year. Anyone good on tax rules ?

Can the IRS track these checks with the business name on them? Also this same person has a worker that the IRS doesn't know about because they pay them in cash. Are these things illegal? If so what can be done about it?

I just got married in Sept. My wife and I make about 70k combined. We're currently renting and both of us only claimed ourselves on our respective W-4. New to the whole married filing jointly so I'm just wondering what to expect in terms of a resund and if we even can file this way since we were married so late in the year. Would appreciate any valid response/comparison.

how would having 40-100k (in a pre-existing savings account) effect your income taxes, especially if the money were in an account under your name, AND you were a first time home buyer? Would you be paying taxes or geting a refund (I know that home buyers-especially first time home buyers-get a reasonable refund)

home buyer, in 2005. I am many years less than 59. My "advisors" had not informed me that this sort of early withdrawal is only tax exempt if it is made at least 5 yrs after the creation of the Roth (the Roth started in 2002); I thought it was tax exempt just because it was used as a first time homebuyer cost. I made this unfortunate finding just now, as I research my reply to the CP2000 the IRS sent me a few months ago, stating that I owe them $900 in taxes. My question: is this true? Am I screwed? I have also read that your contributions to the Roth can be withdrawn "anytime" without tax or penalty. Can this be true? If so, and if contributions are the first to be withdrawn, then didn't part or all of my $3000 distribution in 2005 actually consist of contributions, so that part or all of it should be exempt from tax? Anyone?

Last year my husband and I filed jointly and lost about 4,000 dollars to my student loans. Can I file a 8379? If so, will I get that money back? I'm a bit confused with that. Also how long does it take to get back the return if it DOES indeed work?

I've tried the IRS website, its too confusing. And I just want to make sure my Tax guy isn't overlooking something.
I claim head of household with 1 child. My annual gross is definitly under 40k. I'm single, and go to school part time.
He gives me Child Credit, Child care credit, and i believe I have Earned income credit as well.

Would anything else be possible?
