1. If you did work, you will get a W-2 from the company you worked for, so you will have that information even if you don't remember (unless the work was "under the table")
2. You can file taxes even if you have no income. Contrary to what some people have said here, there is such a thing as a refundable tax credit. This means that if the credit is more than the tax you owe, you will get a refund for the difference.

3. No one here knows your specific information, so they don't know what credits you are eligible for and whether or not you have any alternate sources of income, such as child support, unemployment, etc. So really they have no basis to answer your question.

You really should consult a tax advisor for accurate information on this matter. The people on this website are full of misinformation. If you can't afford to use something like H&R Block, the IRS has FREE tax advice service, you just have to make an appointment at your nearest IRS office.

You only get money if you have income, so if you didn't work then no, you won't get anything so there's nothing to file for.

If it turns out that you DID have a job this year, you should get a W-2 in January or very early February for those earnings. If so, you can file a return and possibly get some money.

But otherwise no, the people who told you that you could get money just for claiming your child are WRONG. Exemptions and most credits only reduce your tax to zero, and yours would already be there. And for EIC, you have to have EARNED income.

You don't remember if you had a job? If you did, you will get paperwork from them so you can file your return. People with kids living at home get a tax credit.

have confidence me "bypass document YOUR TAXES" all of them. before everything you would be getting some money returned because of the fact you have been a pupil for some years. Write off your college costs each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. have confidence me, whilst they arrive for you, there coming and in the event that they arrive they choose money. So its extra suitable to document and doubtless acquire money then sit down and watch for them to deliver you a letter auditing you.

NO wages, NO earned income credit. Since that's the source of the refund your friend was talking about, let's wait and see if you even had a W-2.
