Well, when you consider that the top 10% of all earners pay about 90% of all taxes, I'd say that the other 90% (including myself, and very probably you as well) are getting back quite a bit more than we put in. Welcome to the club!

When you say 'receive more from the government' are you referring to the value of services they receive (like snow removal, paved roads etc...)?
This is an impossible question to answer as how do you put a value on 'safety' and 'freedom' which is provided by the government?
But, some interesting points is the vast majority of income taxes paid (~80% - 90%) are paid by 10% of the population. That is why I always laugh when politicians complain the wealthy are getting tax breaks and people on here complain about the breaks rich people get.
We (the wealthy) are paying a disproportionate amount of taxes in this country.

NO. Too many Americans pay too much when they can ill-afford paying anything, let alone the time and stress of wading through the tax code. Those earning higher amounts should pay a higher percentage.

Well I guess you could count most who are on social security. Would guess that's around 20% `+ another 15% on relief - so that's about 40% off the top. Probably turn out to be more than that.

I don't want to know the answer to this question because my husband and I are hard working people and we live from paycheck to paycheck. I go to the store knowing I can spend X amount of dollars but watch the 18 year old with 3 kids in front of me whipping out her "Food Stamps" and buying pure convenience foods ---I think if we all knew the real answer to your question, it would drive us to completely overthrow our government.

The people with the highest income, the top 5 percent, receive much more from the government than they pay in taxes. They are sheltered, which helps them get richer.
But I bet you wanted to know how many "welfare bums" there are.
Well, the answer is the same.
Peace.

I know someone who works in public assitance in Texas. And he has told me that almost all Mexicans, especially the illegal ones, get food stamps. They also get section 8 housing and free medical. Also, their children go to schools without parents having to pay home taxes. Plus, their children qualify for special grants for college. They have special training in Mexico on how to get everything free from "system" once u enter America. They also sue and win cases for millions without even being legal citizens.

Something over 60% of the national budget goes for governmentally-funded people.
It's called "redistribution" of wealth.
And I doubt many of them need it, or deserve it.
Now, excuse me while I die starving next to my machine...
