I am a small business owner and have been developing my company for the past year. Because I left my previous job to start this business I do not have a current income and because my company only recently officially "opened for business" we do not have a profit line. Do I need to file? What about the business expenses that I incur?

My wife and I claimed Married - 1 on our taxes. If it wasn't for education credits, we would of owed quite a bit of money this year. We make about the same amount of money. Would we still owe if we claimed married -0, just not as much, or would we get a refund?

I did a little tractor work for a friend of a friend..may be $1500 or so.
The guy said he wanted my SS# to report my pay, because we were working on a road to his winery he was just starting up.

So this year he says he isn't reporting the income so I won't get a 1099, I didn't really keep an accurate figure, because he told me he would 1099 me.

I want to report it, but don't want to over report, or over report. !!??

Hello. I am wondering the following on buying a new RV from S.C. and I live in CA.
1. Do I have to pay CA sales tax since I would pick it up in S.C.
2. I intend to use it for Volunteer duties, so can I write off any thing to do with the purchase or depreciate it for taxes?
3. I will regester it in CA.

thank you

Is there somewhere I can get my w2's online? Or any other way to get them? My previous employer will not respond to my emails or calls about them, the last response I got was @ a month ago & "they were going out tomorrow".

Is there anything I can do?

I want to see how much I would get back If I e-filed, but I think I would get more goin into somewhere. I just want to see if I can get a free estimate on my own? So I can decide if it's worth it to go have someone else do it.

If we check the box Married, but withhold at higher Single rate on both of our W4s do we still need to claim 0 on our W4s AND have my employer take out more $ each paycheck? Or does that box take care of it all?

Background: Married for 5 years. The first 2 years I did not change our W4s and we got a refund check of $3500 each year. Then I changed our W4s and claimed 1 on each of them. At the end of the year we owed over $1000.

Last year, I changed our W4s to claim 0 on each. By the middle of the year, I knew I would be behind so I had them take $30 out of my check each week and we got a refund of $500.

At the beginning of this year, I messed up again and claimed 1 on each of our W4s.

Now, I do know that I need to change our W4s to claim 0 on both. But do we also need to check the "Married, but withhold at higher Single rate" box? (In other words, do I do both?) And will I still need them to take more out each week on top of that? Or does the box take care of it?

Thx

I claim that I'm single with no dependants all year and have no property and make very little- under 15k a year. I usually get a refund between $500- $800 a year. What tax bracket or withholding status should I be in to break even and not owe? I'm a poor college student and would rather have money in my pocket than the government holding it all year.
