I want to see how much I would get back If I e-filed, but I think I would get more goin into somewhere. I just want to see if I can get a free estimate on my own? So I can decide if it's worth it to go have someone else do it.

You can go to www.hrblock.com -- if you sign up to do your taxes there, you don't have to pay until the very end. And it will tell you what your refund will be.

I do mine there every year, and it's only $19.95 to get them done that way.

TaxAct.com is just one of many free sites. Go to the IRS site and follow the links for free on-line filing.

A MUCH EASIER WAY: The answer which suggests getting a hard copy of a 1040EZ is o.k. But it would be easier to buy income tax software for about $20--$30 with all the forms, or go to a friend who has already bought the software. Plug the numbers in for your situation and you will see the answer a lot quicker than going to TaxAct or such a site. Then you will see how easy (or not) it is to use the software when you are ready to buy a copy and file!

Pick up a 1040-EZ at the post office and fill it out. It will give you a rough idea. If you have any complex deductions, you will be getting back a little more than it says. Then subtract from that number the cost of e-filing, which is sometimes free.

BTW, congratulate me, this is my first year as an AMerican. And I'm proud to be an AMerican, 'cause at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died, to give those rights to me. Sorry, I broke off into song.

go to www.taxact.com and go through the forms to see what you will owe of get back. You can elect to file whenever you wish. Or not at all. Its free for federal. There is a small fee for state. It's about 13 dollars. I have used it for several years.

You can start a return on hrblock.com without filing it and it will show you the amount of your return.
