Two people can never claim the same dependent. You can choose which of you claims her though.

Only one of you can claim your daughter. Since you're not married, when you file, the one that makes the least amount of money should file head of household or single then claim the child. We just had that same situation come up during tax prep and that was the advice given. Good luck!

Don't believe that one about you can split her. One person gets the dependent, you can't share her and each claim half! Your fiance is not related to your daughter, so he won't pass the relation test, so you have to take her as a dependant, not him. If you are married next year, then you can file jointly and take her together on your return.

Only one of you can claim her. It is usually the parent who provided more then half of her support for the year.

No, the instructions are quite explicit on that. Only one person can claim a particular dependent.

I may only be a college student but according to the tax course I am in right now only one person can claim the child as a dependent, the other can claim the status of head of household.

Only one of you can claim her. If you both do, separately as single parent. You will have to use her SS# and that is a no no. You are perpetrating a fraud.

Only if you'll were separated, then you can claim her for six months, and he can claim her for six months but you have to let the tax accesser know.
