You can go ahead and e-file your 2006 taxes, indicating that you owe taxes from a previous year, they will go ahead and cross collect it from your anticipated refund.
This will cause a delay in any remaining refund you have coming, probably by a couple of weeks.
If you are using a tax professional, you will need to pay your fees up front to them.

good luck

The refund carry application is dealt with by a particular workplace. You mailed the returns to them, good? while achievable, they are going to look over the tax returns. If it particularly is sparkling which you do not owe for the three hundred and sixty 5 days, they might go in and positioned an "ok, does not owe" code on the past 3 hundred and sixty 5 days--it particularly is sufficient to launch the present 3 hundred and sixty 5 days refund. Then they technique the previous return as known. many human beings do not document different than while they think of they're getting a refund. The IRS refund carry application seems to kick into severe kit another 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, so which you should be competing with an excellent style of human beings to get the attention of the clerks. it particularly is a few weeks earlier they might look on the return. If the lacking return has a schedule C on it, or losses, or babies with a lot of EIC, a mini-audit is carried out. those can particularly sluggish the technique down.

You can efile your 2006 taxes, but each year is separate, so you can't ask to automatically deduct the back taxes from this year's refund. But if the IRS paperwork is up to date, they'll take the part of your refund that's needed to pay any back taxes that you owe.
