I claim that I'm single with no dependants all year and have no property and make very little- under 15k a year. I usually get a refund between $500- $800 a year. What tax bracket or withholding status should I be in to break even and not owe? I'm a poor college student and would rather have money in my pocket than the government holding it all year.

Claim single with 1 dependant, they'll withhold a bit less and you should be breaking pretty close to even!

You could claim single -1 exemption (yourself) and still would likely break even or even get a small refund. Try that for this year and see how you come out.

Single - 1 should be your break even point.
