Hello. I am wondering the following on buying a new RV from S.C. and I live in CA.
1. Do I have to pay CA sales tax since I would pick it up in S.C.
2. I intend to use it for Volunteer duties, so can I write off any thing to do with the purchase or depreciate it for taxes?
3. I will regester it in CA.

thank you

1. If you live in CA, you are suppose to pay CA sales tax independent where you pick it up. If you are lucky the SC dealer might not charge you CA sales tax but legally they are suppose to.

2. If you have a non-profit business you can claim those deductions otherwise you can just claim the charitable mile detuction (if you keep a mileage log).

Also, if you do not own a second home, you itemize and you "live" in the RV sometime, you MIGHT be able to deduct finance charge as a mortgage deduction. The RV can be treated as a "Vacation Home".
