I never got around to filing my 2005 tax return - I am actually waiting for a former employer to resend me my info. Can I still file my 2006 return or do I have to wait and do 2005 first? If I can file 2006, will I be assesed a penalty on my 2006 return for having not filed 2005?

I am using Turbo Tax to do my 2006 taxes and the program is suggesting I make estimated tax payments for '07. I am not self employed (I work for a bank) and receive ~95% of my income from my employer (and hence reported on a W-2). I receive ~1/3 of my annual income in a lump sum in the middle of year (e.g. a bonus). Should I make estimated tax payments or is Turbo Tax being too conservative? I am not sure if the bonus is skewing the estimated tax liabilty for '07. Thoughts? Do other people who receive a sizable annual bonus, and who receive most of their income from their employer, make estimated tax payments?

Thanks in advance for the help!

In december of 06 I purchased a computer and some software. I started a new quick books company and set the begin date for Jan of 07. Though I began work in this company a few months before that I want to put the start date for Jan, and Jan of 06 would be way too early as I was not doing any work for the company at that time.
So my question is, how can I make the computer and the software an expense in my new company that I have begun in Jan of 07? Thanks.

I am assigned and complete my work entirely through the Internet. My paychecks come out of Washington D.C. and I receive a 1099 form at the end of the year. I make estimated tax payments. I was told by one of the large tax places that I have no state tax liability. I just don't see how I don't owe Washington D.C. money. Any help would be appreciated!

We are not separated, but we would like to file separately because my husband is considered self-employed, but I would get a return if I filed mine separately. Can we do that? Do the tax forms (his and mine) have to be sent in at the same time, or can I send mine in now and his in on Apr 15?

We live in Ohio,2 miles from the Indiana state line. Both of us work in Indiana. My employer takes out Ohio state tax and school district tax we are obligated to pay.Like they should. My husband's employer doesn't take out school district tax and take's out state taxes for Indiana. Is there a penalty for them to do this or some kind of credit we can take? Since the money is going to another state and collecting interest all year.Is there someone I can report this to if so?What forms do I need to have for this.We also have to pay a county tax for Indiana which are taken out of both of our checks.

What does it mean when it asks can no one else claim you as dependent? I am married, can my husband claim me as dependent and I claim him as dependent? Or should we not put anything?
