I received a letter from a CPA saying I overpaid $500 in taxes last year and that they can get it back for me. However, they will be charging half of the refund amount. I am wondering if I can do this myself? Which forms do I use? Can anyone help?

I need to get my W2s from 2001 to 2005 (I'm in VT) I've contacted my previous employer asking for them but they are ignoring me. What can I do? Does anyone know if they have a legal obligation to give them to me? I know that you have to keep records for 7 years in case of an audit and I know they have them... Should I call the st dept of taxes and ask them to call them and request them? If anyone has any ideas please let me know. It would be a lot easier if they HAD to give them to me.
thanks

I did fudge my income on the application. I didn't think it would matter. I have the bike already, will I get into trouble if I don't give them the form or will I get into trouble if I give them the form with mismatched info?

I just found out I made a little bit of money in 2005 because I was in school and I didn't know I had any income. I'm doing a paper filing and I have an IRS 1040 form. I wanted to know if I would need a separate CA one also.

I work on a commission basis, the commission is based on job profits, I have discovered that the company is coding laborers as secretaries and sales people, thus reducing the workmens comp rate. They are charging a higher rate back to the jobs. they are also lying about the hourly rate they are paying some of the laborers in order to get a lower rate. What can I do?

I was an international worker as a waiter for an internship in Washington D.C. last year.
Working 11weeks, I got a J-1 Visa.

The payment was good and everything just perfect.

Having happily returned back to my country, very recently, I've received a W-2 form, demanding the declaration of my taxes.

I've never done this before and now I am totally overwhelmed by the massive information I got from the International Revenue Service website (http://www.irs.gov/efile). Could somebody tell my just what's the exact procedure I should do?

I am a Nonresident Alien, and I am not in American.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

I work for AAFES; I have been deployed on Qatar since Dec'04. During 2006 I was only in the United States for approx 30 days. Is there a way to claim tax exempt for this time period?

My AGI is too high to get any deduction from real estate rental losses. Thus, claiming depreciation deduction doesn't help me with anything. An accountant said that I should still claim it, as when i sell the property, the IRS assumes I have claimed it anyway. Is this true?

My wife and 14-month old son just arrived here in the US last december. I am in the process of filing my tax return but I am unsure if my son qualifies as my dependent since he's only been in the US for about a month on 2006.

I think one of the qualifications was that the child should have lived with you for over 6 months. In this case, he has lived with my wife for the entire year (our home country and the US).

** the assumption is that my son already has an ITIN, my wife has her SSN

On another note, if my son qualifies as a dependent, would a non-licensed care taker be considered as dependent care? (no reciepts can be provided)

Does anyone know what the percentage of a person's pay the feds take out for Social Security?

I've been working for the state for several years so I've been kicking into the state pension system instead of SS. I'm leaving to take another job - it's been awhile since I last worked in the private sector and I can't remember how much the feds take out.
