So, I got my first job my freshman year in college working at the front desk of my residence hall during the 2003-2004 school year. I made at least $1000 each year for the years 2004, '05 and '06 but I never filed because I didn't think I had to since I made so little - I thought you had to make at least $2000 to *have* to file. Now that I know I owe back taxes what am I supposed to do? I don't have any old W2 forms or anything like that and I don't have any paperwork saying exactly how much I made from '04 and '05. I'm kinda scared because I don't want to get sued by the IRS! Please help. Thank you:).

What portion of your income are you willing to pay in tax? Total tax, not just imcome tax, but all of the taxes you get tagged for. Income tax, sales tax, SSI Tax, excise tax, etc.

How much do you think OTHERS should pay?

i
I had some idiot do my state taxes and he forgot to fill in the line that read "State Income Tax Withheld". Therefore i owed CA, $497. When, i found the error i rushed to HR block and they filled out a 540X and now CA owes me $178. My question is should i send in the $497 and then wait for them to refund that PLUS the $178, or just wait for the $178, The Fedral Tax Board says I shuold send in whatever I owe and then later they will refund that amount + $178 but the woman at HR block says there is no need to send in the payment since I filed the amended return before April 15th. What do you think?

Another question have have... I worked for Millennium Management based in Beachwood, Ohio as a aprtment maintenance worker. My contract with them was, a hourly salary and a apartment that was valued in the contract as so $xxx a month. Now, the free apartment was not taxed and not on my tax statements at the end of the year that they gave me. But, when I missed a day of work, they charged me a pro rated amount of rent for that day and deducted it from my payroll check. Is this legal for them to do, or are they trying to cheat the IRS. Its not fair to me either, because if I try to collect unemployment or apply for a loan, will they consider the free rent as part as my salary. No, they wont. But how is it free, when I have to pay rent when I miss work?

How do I know? I do have a charitable deduction I guess. I give 10 percent of my income to my church and I give bags of clothes to goodwill every couple months it seems but that is all as far as that goes.

If I claimed EIC honestly thinking that I qualified for it...will I still be penalized and if so, can they arrest me? Can I be charged with a criminal offense?

I have read some horror stories about the IRS arresting people and I am supposed to hear something from them this week. Can they just show up at my door??

I got married in november of 2006. I completed my fed return no problem. The problem is with the Arizona Tax return which is where we live. My wife made no money in Arizona, but i included her wages in the federal form. The state form asks for the "Federal adjusted gross income". But i dont know how to subtract the money my wife made in colorado. Any ideas?

If the goverment saves money when consumers efile, and they want to encourage more people to efile to save paper (good for the environment) and other resources, then why do they charge a fee? Would it not make more sense to charge a fee to file a paper return and allow efile to be free?

There used to be rebates for efiling, but that was discontinued.

I like their customer service, prices & timeliness. Am I wrong to want to know if they pay taxes so I can continue to support their business? Or am I being a flipping nazi for even thinking these things?
I suppose I can start asking for a receipt.
I could also find out if it's cash only for their haircuts only & not for other services.
