Like everything involving the government, it depends. You have to file an estimate of the taxes you owe and a request for an extension by April 15th. Then you can ask for another extension with a final deadline of October 15th. Hope that helps.

As others have said the deadline is normally the 15th of April, assuming your fiscal year ends on December 31, which is the case for individuals. But since the 15th is on Sunday and the 16th was a holiday in D.C. the govt decided to make all due on the 17th. Most states are following suit as well. Just remeber if you will have a balance due and intend on filing an extension the taxes due will still be due on the 17th of April. The extension does not extend your time to pay, just your time to file.

April 17th, 2007 is the deadline for filing taxes on any income you received between 1/1/2006 and 12/31/2006.
