I am a nanny and if the family i work for doesn't claim me on their taxes do i have to file? How much can you make before you have to file in the state of VA, is in over 4,000 you have to file? Because if the don't send anything in and i don't file is it like i never made anything this past year. But if i don't file how to i go about filing for my 07 taxes because they will claim next year. If i don't file will this just mess me up in the long run?

Legally, if you made over $400 from self-employment, you have to file. Legally, also, you are probably really an employee, not self-employed, so both you AND the family you work for are skirting the law.

You can keep yourself out of trouble by claiming the income and paying taxes on it.

That sounds like a mess. If they never claimed you, then that will reflect on your claim, I would think so anyway. Good luck with all that, it's not that much money, especially for a year.
