I work as a part-time/temp employee (although still 40 hours/week.) After 1,000 hours they offered me health insurance, but before then I was paying for an individual plan. Can I deduct the premiums I paid up until enrolling in the company's group plan?

I'm self-employed with a staffing agency as an independent contractor, as a nursing technician, and almost finished with RN school. The college I'm going through does not participate in federal financial aid. I'm aware that I can't take a hope or lifetime learning credit because of that, but would the tuition be deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense? As a nursing technician, am I considered part of the nursing profession, even though I'm not licensed as such? I do have the mandatory certification the state requires.

I am single, no dependants and no one can claim me as a dependant. I dont have any kind of tuition reimbursement or retirement stuff. Just my plain old W-2's. Also, I havent filed in a few years and am planning on filing for the past 3 years. My uncle knows a lady who gets him GREAT returns. Should I pay hey to do my taxes as well? hoping that she could somehow get me more money? or are my taxes so simple that I should just do them on my own?

Hello -
I have a question about whether any of this would be considered a "wash sale" ?
Bought 304 sh of X on 10/6/06 Sold 10/18 @ $19 net gain
Bought 94 sh of X on 10/10/06 Sold 10/18$(40) net loss

Bought 325 Sh X on 10/23/06 Sold 325 Sh 10/25/06 Net loss of $1,082.00
Seems to me that the $40 loss a wash but the $1082 is not a wash but maybe that is wish ful thinking?

Thanks in advance for any help!

(from the guy with the 5 years of returns to file)
On the gambling issue, would you put both the winnings and the losses on Schedule A? Also, if I do not have the records showing the losses, they would still have to audit me, right? So if I do not get audited would you go ahead and do it? And if I do get audited, is the worse that can happen a penalty, or could this be criminal? Where on my tax returns can I put a statement showing that the casino was ruined in the hurricane? I already tried getting records from the casino "receivership office", all I have gotten is the runaround.

I incorporated on 3/10/2007 and when applying for EIN, I mentioned Fiscal Year end as March. (I am now thinking probrbaly Jan 31 would have been better)
In any case,
Does my corporation have to file taxes this year ending March 31, 2007? Or on March 31, 2008?
Does it make sense to file taxes for the short year comprising 20 odd days?

I am the poor slob with the 5 years of back taxes to do. I won some money in a casino in Biloxi Mississippi and then I lost enough to offset the win. But the casino got blown away in Hurricane Katrina and all I have is the W2G showing the win, while I cannot get a win-loss statement from the casino to show my losses because it is gone. Will the IRS trust me on this one?????

Hi,

For the tax year 2005, I happened to invest $1500 more than I am supposed to. I realized this in Jan 06(before my tax filing due date of 2005) and promptly removed the excess contribution along with the earnings. For the tax year 2005, I did not show any excess contribution withdrawal,i just mentioned the correct Roth IRA I am eligible for as invested, I thought I had to do that in 2006 as I did this act in Jan 06. But the custodian has given me a 1099 R with the code PJ and my tax software tells me that this means I have to correct my 2005 return. Can someone help me and guide me on this. It is just 86$ which is the earning on the excess withdrawal. What form do I need to file to correct this for 2005, will I need to do amendment of the 2005 tax return.
Is this an easy job or will I be better of going to a tax preparer. I have always done my own taxes.
Any help on this would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

I did not file due to divorce and procrastination. Once I missed the first year it was harder and harder to do the next year. This year I want to catch up and get squared away. Even tho I withheld more than I owed, am I still in trouble? What would you do? This is U.S. income tax by the way.

Also, does it matter how long you owned the property?
I tried looking this information up at the I.R.S. site, and couldn't find any helpful info.

My wife and I filed our 2006 Federal income tax returns two months ago. We recently filed our local income tax returns and got a unexpected $22.00 return that we had not reported on our Federal return. The local authority issued us a 1099-G that stated this income is being reported to the IRS for tax year 2006 (not 2007).

Should we go through the hassle of amending our 2006 returns for this small amount, or should we wait to see if the IRS sends us correspondence asking us to pay the tax on the $22.00?

Thanks,

Another question I have concerning Millennium Management located in Beachwood, Ohio. I was hired as a apartment maintenance worker for one of their managed apartment buildings located in in Ohio. When I was on-call they only paid me once a month for overtime pay. Is this legal under Ohio labor laws? I feel I should been paid every pay period for overtime pay with my normal payroll check. Not once a month so they could fudge my overtime and hope I would forget about the hours I worked in overtime that month.

I filed last year and owed money. They sent me a notice with the amount I owed, which I've lost. Now it's almost time to file again and I still haven't paid. How can I find out how much I owe them now that there will be penalties tacked onto the balance?
