I am used to using Turbo Tax but this year have to file in 4 states, so with downloading each state, I am thinking it may be less expensive to go to H & R Block. Has anyone had good/bad experience with them? Also, how much does it typically cost?

I am fixing to file my taxes but it is somewhat complicated for me. I wanted to use the turbo tax, but the first half of the year i got a w-2. Then the next three months i got a 1099. Then the last three months i had my own hair business with just myself and i haven't sent any money in yet for that. I don't know if the program has a way to enter both?. Also, the money that I have put back for taxes on the last three months of the year, how do i send that in, and do i send it in evevn if i am entitled to a refund? thanks

She wants to compare it to her W-2 . She was told that check stubs were provided as a convenience and was verbally given totals. Are there any Indiana state laws or Federal laws that state that stubs and copies ARE to be provided at an employee's request?

If we expanded the bracket to lets say 2 million at 37%, then people at the 150,000 or lower would be at a lower tax bracket. Makes sense to me, but it doesn't seem to be an idea coming out of politicians mouths.

My husband still has not received his W-2. He called the local store AND the corporate office, and for some reason they refuse to give him the federal employer identification number. How else can we get this? Apparently I can't file unless I have this number.

A friend of mine just found out that no federal tax was taken out all year and now owes the IRS almost $5K. In hindsight, she should've checked her paystub, but when she approached her boss, she blamed my friend saying it's because she only took 1 withholding (which is not true), then said it was the paycheck company's fault. She knows she can get on a payment plan with the IRS, but she's still really upset about how her boss handled it. Wouldn't an employer who uses Quickbooks catch an employee who didn't have a "federal tax" line on their paystub? Should she see a tax attorney?

I live in the U.S. and owned stock in a company in Denmark, which is not traded in the U.S. (traded in Copenhagen). I sold the stock and received a check. Since the stock is not traded here, I was told they are not required to report this to the IRS.

Do I still need to claim this on my taxes, and how do I claim it if I do?

One of my W-2's is late. I contacted my previous boss and he says he sent it out and referred me to his accountant. I contacted the accountant and she mailed them on the 20th to him. It is now the 7th and I still haven't gotten them. When I was sending out W-2's for my office, I was told I would be penalized if they were not post-marked for the 31st of January. Why and what would these penalties be?

I got audited after I got last year's tax return. I owe the irs about $1700. I did an agreement/extension to pay in March. When I file my taxes for 2006, I am anticipating a refund. If I owe them, will they take it out of my refund automatically or can I request them to do so? Or, do I need to get the refund & pay as I had scheduled?

We were building an investment property but our financial situation changed. We were forced to break the contract and we lost our $10K deposit. Would this be deductible on our federal taxes? We have other capital gains from real estate that could offset the loss.

I had my own online business in 2005 but stopped working on that business the same year. I had a few websites bring in a little cash in the beginning of 2006, only $257. I haven't received a W-2 for it yet. Anyway, i'm "married filing jointly" and was wondering if it is required for me to report this information, since it was such a little amount. I really want to file our tax return now because I have no idea when my W-2 (income = $257) will come in. Thanks!!
