I am normally taxed about about 21% of pay in taxes.

I've broken the $5,250 barrier allowed by the federal government on tuition reimbursement from my employer.
However, when I submitted my $1029.35 bill for tuition reimbursement here is how I was paid-
Total bill - $1029.35
Federal Income Tax - $257.34
Social Sec. Tax - $63.82
Medicare Tax - $14.92
MA State Tax - $54.56
Amt paid to employee - $638.71

Anyone know much about this? That's close to 40% taxes paid!

I've looked and can't find the answer, please help me out. I'm wondering how much money you can make and be able to get most of your federal and/or state tax money back. Also - when is the soonest & latest dates you can file your taxes?? I live in Iowa if that makes any difference. Thanks!!!!

since then I consider myself selfemployed and have paid estimated taxes. The question is this: what and how should I file taxes at the end of this year? Does any taxes I paid earlier in the year towards my corpration prior to closing comes into accout towards my 2006 return? or do I only pay taxes on amount earned after my corporation was closed? Thanks

I've been separated from my wife for a year. I allowed her to file our taxes (Joint since we were together in 05) and for the life of me I did not follow up on the matter. Well I found out that she did not file the taxes because we owed money and I only have a few days before the new year to figure out what to do. I am looking for a tax specialist as I type. I hope I can get some real solutions so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm confused how this will work because I will only have been married for 1/3 of the year (married Sept. 2nd). Her mother claimed her on taxes before this. Also, my wife is a college student who worked part-time throughout the year. Whats the best way to file and what benefits are there?
