I am due to recieve a refund but have not yet recieved my W2 do I have to file an extension or can I just file as soon as I get my W2. The form to get an extension seems as if it is made for when you owe taxes and I do not.

I filed my taxes online yesterday and was rejected because I used the wrong AGI amount. I fixed it and resent it but I am uncertain of the status so I sent it the paperwork through mail today. What happens if the IRS receives two identical returns?

I have been informed by my international student advisor that I do not need to file by April 17 if I don't owe anything and just need to get a refund. Is this true?

This would be the first time I've ever filed with my spouse, but we have a bit of a situation.

We did some freelance work in 2006, but saved all our receipts for expenses because of the freelance work. So..

A) Which form do I use for joint filing with deductions
B) How do I do deductions?? Is it the total of all the receipts that gets added up and then deducted from the total somewhere?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!! :-D

Hello,

I formed a corporation in Dec of 2006 that has no sales, expenses or employees. Do I have to file taxes for 2006 still?

I will probably use Turbo Tax for business if I do.

Thanks!

In preparing 2006 returns I have discovered my account may have incorrectly figured self-employment tax on several returns from past years, resulting in under-reporting of those taxes. I hold him fully responsible, after all this is what I pay him for. Is he financially liable for any taxes, penalties and interest that is owed as a result of those mistakes?

Does the federal government impose a late filing penalty or jail time on individuals who fail to file their taxes and yet are due a refund? I know that they don't make any effort to seek you out to let you know you are due a refund. I guess my question is, how vindictive is the government when it already has your money?

I was an employee for a small company that was having severe cash flow problems. My boss started paying me with "personal checks" written by hand from the company. He would pay me the net amount that normally would show on my regular paychecks. Turns out he wasn't withholding any tax, FICA, etc for the IRS. Now that taxes are due, he wants to treat all those checks as an advance on 2007 income. Is this legal? Should I go along with it? I believe he will be treating it all as 1099 income eventually for 2007. Along with paying me a gross up amount as 1099 income in 2007.
