Extensions don't cost anything, but you will have to pay the taxes that are due on that date. This is only an extension to file, not an extension to pay your taxes.

IRS does not charge any fee to extend the date of filing taxes. You need to pay only the amount you owe to IRS, if any.

There will be minimal cost involved depending upon how you extend the income tax return like electronically or by mail.

There's not a charge from the IRS for filing an extension. If you have a paid preparer do it for you, they would probably charge you something.
