Can an employer pay for mileage, and then ask for it back at the end of the month?
I thought if mileage was paid it was declared to the IRS.
If so, how can an employer ask for it back?
(Legally?)

I'm doing my state taxes, and the form online asks for State Income Tax WITHHELD.

When I look at my W-2 I have something on line 17 that only says State Income Tax which is $316.58. Nothing using the word WITHHELD.

When I study my W-2 further, I realize they do use the term "withheld" for Federal income tax and Social security tax.

Should I enter this $316.58 as State Income Tax WITHHELD? or is that something different in which case I should enter zero $0.00?

i have 3000 stock options at $1.50 and the current price is $7.00 if i do cashless excercise, thne I assume i get hit with regular income tax on the gains, if I exercise them and hold them for a year I get taxed as long term capital gains. I had these options for 4 years now, does that count as holding them

We bought a house in 1996 lived there for three years, refinanced in 1999 and rented it out. Moved due to military orders. We are now considering selling, before the end of 2007 hopefully. Do we meet the military exclusion for Capital Gains, and who should we see to figure all this out?

I own a house in one state, but will be renting an apartment in another state where I will be working and have a car registered. Is it possible to declare the first state my official residence? There are significant tax benefits to keeping the state where I own a house as my primary residence. What if I register to vote in the state where I am working (does that change where i can list my primary residence)?
