Absolutely you can use IRS web site to use free file program. It will direct you to appropriate list of web sites which offers free file program in your case.

It is not necessary that you are eligible to file free tax return though. Do not worry as IRS site will tell you if you are eligible or not by asking few information.

This is that IRS link:
http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html

You will only need a web browser like Internet explorer or Firefox.

The Free File Program on the IRS web site is a link to IRS approved, free commercial on-line tax programs. The IRS site does not have tax preparation software of its own. It is important that you connect to the free tax preparation web site through the IRS site, to ensure you get a legitimate site.
You don't need any special software except an Internet connection. You should make less than $50,000 for the year. The federal e-file is free, although you will pay $12.00 or more to e-file a state form if you need to.
I have used TAXACT.COM in the past it's good and easy to use.
Good Luck.

It's not wise to e-file this late. If your return is rejected for any reason -- and there are thousands of things that can cause a reject -- you will NOT meet the filing deadline.

If you do decide to free e-file, NEVER go directly to a website that claims to offer the service! Connect to the Free E-File program ONLY from the IRS homepage at http://www.irs.gov There are fraudulent sites that claim to be free e-file sites but are run by identity theft fraudsters.
