Every year, we get the shaft and have to pay...and it's always a lot (federal taxes). What are we doing wrong? We don't make a lot, it's just me and my husband. We used turbo tax so we are just plugging in numbers. Our mortgage interest didn't even help us. Should we be filing married/filing separatly? It sucks! The last time we got money back was when we had an apt! (years ago!) Any clue as to what's up? And can they take more out of paychecks so it is not such a "shock" come April?? Any tax professionals out there? Thanks!!

If you can, answer both or you can answer the one you know.
1) What does pre-tax basis and after tax basis mean?
2) 401k is tax deferred till retirement, but u get taxed after that, so what good is it? Why not just tax it now, i mean i dont see any benefits other than some employers matching the 401k contribution

Thanks you for your time :)

We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Your expected refund date has been changed due to processing delays. You should receive your refund by mrach 20 2007 Please wait until that date to contact us again because we cannot take any action until then. Thank you for your patience."

My son worked in Spain for the 2006 tax year. He has dual citizenship (European/German) and has lived there in 2006. Does he file a Canadian Income Tax Return? If so, what about the income and taxes from Spain, do they get included in the Canadian Tax return?

THanks

I am doing taxes for a friend of mine and i am stumped. she lives (rents) and works in MN but owns a home in WI and claims 'homestead' (her words) in WI. she should only have to file taxes in WI due to reciprocity right? What about rent credit for living in MN and renting?

I have been living in Arizona for 6 months and held a seasonal position at Toys R Us. I got my W-2 back and recently filed my federal and state taxes for the time I worked in Arizona. I also have a W-2 back in Chicago from when I worked at Wal-Mart before I moved to Arizona. When I file my W-2 from Wal-Mart, do I just file a state return?
