We have always done our own taxes, but we keep being told that we should have a certified accountant look at them.

I just recently got audited and turns out I owe taxes along with penalties totaling $13,900. Can I use a Offer to Compromise in my case? I know IRS lets you make payments but can I bargain down the interest rate or do something about my penalties?

Hi, I'd like advice on where the best resource is for medium-complexity tax handling. My industry boomed last year, so I spent part of the year as a full-time employee and the rest as an independent consultant. I opened an SEP-IRA and put money in it, and at the same time my wife's had a fair amount of stock transactions. We also have a 1.5-year-old son for whom we've put money into a 529 college plan. We've also donated items to charity.

What do you think the lowest price I should expect to spend for sufficient tax help would be? I've tried H&R Block and TurboTax softwares, but our situations typically push a little bit past what their solutions offer.

I'd love to find a way to not have to pay $$$$ for tax help this year while wrapping things up as effectively and easily as possible...

Thanks!

I was thinking of using Taxcut this year to do my taxes. I've read a bunch of reviews, but one that I saw mentioned something about an additional $24.95 (and they said "required" with efiling) to have direct deposit. Does anyone know about this? Is this an additional $24.95 on top of the $15.95 efile charge? and is that PER RETURN? (so about $40 each to efile state and fed with direct deposit?)

I have efiled for several years and am aware of the fee to do that, but I don't recall ever having to pay an EXTRA FEE for direct deposit of my refund. What's up with that? Is this a fee charged by Taxcut or do the Feds and/or states charge this fee now?

I'm a tax beginner and maybe somebody can tell me how?

I also will have a car. What kind of insurance you usually buy for your car and yourself as a driver?
