My son worked in Spain for the 2006 tax year. He has dual citizenship (European/German) and has lived there in 2006. Does he file a Canadian Income Tax Return? If so, what about the income and taxes from Spain, do they get included in the Canadian Tax return?

THanks

If your son is a Canadian resident then, yes, he must report all worldwide income. Foreign employment income is reported in Canadian dollars on line 104.If he paid foreign income tax, then he may be eligible for a foreign tax credit.

Yes, Canadians are required to report all worldwide income. There are special rules that apply to non-residents, but if he is considered a resident here, then he files here.

Spain may be a tax treaty country, in which case, he'd be able to reduce his taxes by the taxes he paid there.
