If she had any federal income tax withheld, she should file to get it refunded.

No, she does not have to file a tax return. The only reason she may want to is if she had any money withheld on her W-2. If there was any withholding you can file a very simple 1040EZ and get all of the Federal Income Tax withholding back. Otherwise, tell her to enjoy not having to pay taxes for another year!

assuming that the $1400 is earned income, she would have to file if she had more than $300 of unearned income, such as interest. but if all she has is the earned income of $1400 then should would only have to file to get any federal tax withheld refunded.

In December of 2006 I only worked for two weeks, during the last part of the month. My check was a little under $200.00. I still had to file taxes. So most likely YES!

She can file a 1040EZ,not claim herself( if you ,the parent are claiming,or did claim her on your taxes)and get the tax back that was taken out of her wages.
