My mom setup a UGMA account a long time ago. She only put in $500 into it and today it's worth $2300. Actually its been fluctuating the past three years. At the end of one year, it was worth $2200. The following year, $1900, and the end of last year $2300. I'm now 24 years old and I'm entitled to use the funds for any purpose. I'm not sure how taxes work in UGMA accounts. I think you pay taxes on it every year on any earnings. I don't think they grow tax-deferred. Is my information correct?

If I withdraw funds from it, will I pay any income taxes on it?

I just finish filling out my income taxes. The software says I have a credit of $2,747. Should I enter my deductions any way? Or should I save my time? Please help.

Remember I do not own taxes; I even have a tax credit.

Thank you.

I'm self-employed in the UK - first tax bill due at the end of this month. What happens if you can't pay it all? Do you get fined, or do you only pay interest on what you owe? I'm only a couple of hundred quid short, so I might just take it out of my savings, but I'm curious as to what happens.

I withdrew money from my traditional ira and within 60 days put part of the money withdrawn back into a Roth ira. When I got my 1099-r from my custodian, it showed the total amount withdrawn from my traditional ira as "taxable". When I asked them to subtract the amount returned to the Roth ira, they said that the Irs required the to show the total amount as taxable. How can I handle this when filling out my tax forms without having problems with IRS relating to the total amount being shown as taxable.
