You get the maximum refund by giving the IRS too much money to start with. To minimize the amount the IRS keeps, we need a better question.

It ain't easy to get a large refund without kids, unless you are having a crazy amount of federal withheld. Here are a few credits that might (hopefully) include you.

There is a Telephone Excise Credit (for you, it would be $30, if you've paid for long distance charges between 2003-2006)

Education credits - did you take any classes in 2006?
Student interest deduction - are you repaying student loans?
Schedule A - Do you own your own home? If so, you may be able to itemize instead of taking the standard deduction.
Do you have a 401k? Depending on your income level, you may get a savers credit for doing so.
Open up a traditional IRA before April 15th. You get a tax deduction for doing so.
