I live in Michigan and I worked in Florida for 4.5 months. Florida does not have a state tax. How do I do my Michigan taxes so I will only be taxed on the income earned in Michigan? In Michigan, I will put my federal AGI (xy) on my Michigan, and only "x" should be taxed. What forms do I use?

I plugged in my details at HR Block and then Citzen Tax. The refunds were $1000 off! I am on a very tight budget and this tax refund is a lifeline. I want to make sure I get the most back. My w2s were: Job 1: 13610.84, federal income tax withhead: 1955.90
Job 2. 14990.40, fed. income tax withheld" 1823.96 Job 3. 278., fed tax: 18.00

I am also eligible for that $40 phone credit.

Why is my refund coming up only at $2645? Shouldn't I get almost all of it back? I am married filing jointly and my spouse doesn't have an income.

My total income for 2006 was 28600.94
with unemployment 2658.00 with 270.00 withheld.

Can someone please give me a ballpark figure? Did I go wrong by filing married jointly? HELP.

I filed form 1040A for my federal, but accidently filed form WI-Z for my state. Do I have to file form 1X since I used form WI-Z instead of 1A, or does it not really matter? Income and everything is the same.

I purchased vacant land 2 years ago and plan to sell it within the next few months. I haven't used it for any purpose the last 2 years, so I'm assuming it's considered investment property. Originally I had planned to build on the land, but now that I'm moving to a different city I need to sell the land.

I have 2 questions:

1. Are real estate taxes deductible on investment property? If so, are they reported in the same place as the real estate taxes I report for my primary residence?

2. I'll probably break even on the property or even sell at a loss. Would this be considered a capital loss (if I consider it to be investment property)?

Thank you!

My husband is in the military. We have a 2 month old son. I havent had a job in over a year. Should my husband file seperate and claim both of us as dependents, or should we file jointly and claim only our son? Which would give us a higher tax return? We don't own any assets other than a vehicle.

I used to file with H&R Block and I have some friends that have used turbo tax but it seems like a few co-workers who earn the same salary and not homeowners like myself seem to get more back filing with their accountant. I am not a dependant but am work my first full-time job after college and was just curious. It seems like they rush you through at H&R Block.
