A friend of mine has to present an original business plan for one his university classes. It can be anything, from a landscaping service to something that doesn't even exist yet, but it needs to have details and financial specifics, etc.

Now I'm not asking for all that, I'm just wondering if anyone has an idea of what a good business to choose for this? Something for which research won't be difficult but at the same time isn't something so run-of-the-mill that a professor will have seen it a thousand times before.

Thanks!

I currently own a small women's boutique that sells handbags, costume jewelry and apparel. Billboards and radio ads are just out of our budget and I am looking for a creative way to get our name out there. We have tried a mailing list for customers to sign up while in our store and obtained 300 customers from that. Matter of fact, most customers ask us if we have a mailing list as if they are eager to be repeat shoppers. However, when we do mailings to these customers with discount coupons, we do not see a lot of return? We have also tried the local newspaper and some local highschool newspapers to get the younger shoppers in. I need some fresh ideas if anyone can help. We have a website at handbagjewelryboutique.xbuild.com that you can look at to get an idea of the type of products and price we offer. Also, if you have any ideas on types of businesses we should be networking with that would be helpful as well. I am at a loss and need ideas. Thanks ahead of time for your feedback.

Ok, i go in a small independent private business that sells all sorts of collectables. Rock t-shirts, shot glasses, bobblehead dolls, a little of everything. I collect bobblehead dolls. I found one i want, take it up to the register. I open up my wallet and realize i had forgotten to stop at the bank. So i decide i will use my charge card instead. The lady takes my card, walks over and grabs a notepad and ink pen, grabs her cell phone and starts to make a call.
I ask her "what are you doing". She says she has to call the owner (her husband) to run the card from another location. Something about their card processor was down. I just politely asked her to hold onto the doll and give me my card back, i will just run to the bank to get some cash and come back for it. She did-didnt seem insulted. I came back 15 minutes later and paid cash.
Why was she doing this? Was she about to rip me off? I hate to think this, as i have purchased items there before and seem to like the store/people.

I am interested in looking up several names to see if they are trademarked businesses. I hope to oversee the establishment of LLC's in web design, apparel manufacturing, and also the trademark of a recording artist's group name. I have found several pay sites that will run the whole thing for me, but I'd rather just check to see if certain names are taken right now. Is there any free utility for this?
