My apartment managers have just asked all tenants to supply copies of house keys before a certain date and said they reserve the right to change the locks in case of noncompliance. They said that since not all tenants would be able to be at home during the scheduled repair of the building's heating system, they must be able to have access regardless. Frankly I don't feel comfortable for the janitor to have access to my house when ever he pleases. Is it within my rights to deny a set of copies without repercussion? I live in Cook County, Illinois.

I moved into a house that was converted to an upstairs/downstairs duplex and I live alone downstairs. A couple lives upstairs. When signing the lease, I agreed to pay one third of the gas, electric and water because the house had only one meter. Later, I found out that the couple above has a dishwasher, regular sized fridge and a gas fireplace. I have a small apartment fridge, no dishwasher and a no fireplace. I asked the owners (landlords, as well), if I could get a separate meter, but they said no. I signed an agreement to pay one third, but that third was not fully disclosed. Outside of refusing to pay my share, what recourse do I have?

I signed my deed to my house over to a neigbor I trusted as he promised to sign it back to me (he paid my taxes and I signed over my deed until I could get a piece of my property he wanted surveyed and split up) he promised to sign it back to me but ended up selling it. Keep in mind that I only signed my deed to him I never did a contract on what was in the house!!!! So he sold the house and on our moving day the new owners who are real ASSHOLES and sue happy watched us moving everything out of the house, when we tried to take the washer, dryer, and refrig. they called the cops and said that the appl. were in there contract that my neighbor did with them when they bought the house so the cop would not let us take them even though we had the recipt for the washer and dryer. Was my neighbor aloud to sell my personal belongings when I never sold them to him????? Please help.

I signed a contract with a builder for a new house, this house was a standing inventory with some upgrades already in the house, the price was 300's they paid closing cost and gave me FHA with a small down payment by their part, so my new mortage will be 294500, but heres my concern:
I haven't close on the deal, and they have lower the base price of their homes on same models to 304's, and from what i have seen they might go lower than that, would it be wise to honor the deal knoiwngly that my un purchased house could be devaluated by the builder if they keep lowering the price? should I ask for a better price? or just completly back out?
I close in two weeks.

My husband and I want to flip our current house so that when we sell it we can get some extra money to fix up a house that we are about to move into. We both have bad credit (his a little worse than mine) and we need to know the easiest way to get a loan, or a finacial backer to help out.

We built our 3000 sq ft home in 1994. It appraises at approximately $240,000. A corn processing plant built across the street within five years of our building. Yes they have the permits that we fought. Living is miserable here with the dirt, traffic, dust, noise, and traffic, etc. We have put our house on the market twice but cannot get any offers or any lookers. Can the factory be held liable for damages or at least for the loss we have to take if we could get a bottom dollar offer.

My parents live in a apartment for the past 14 years in New Jersey, They are both disabled, they live in a 6 apartment building zoned as a condo and the landlord has sold three condos already and my parents live in one of the three remaining. He just raised the rent a $ 100. The lease hasn't been renewed in 6 years and they are now in a month to month lease. The realtor keeps coming with clients to see the apartment and my parents refuse to show the place because they don't want people to intrude their privacy. Is there anyone here that can help Please. My family was planning to relocate to another state. We found a house loved it, sent a non-refundable "holding deposit" and signed a 1-yr lease with a term from 11/07/07 (when we planned to move in) to 11/2008. Plans got pushed back so we couldnt move into the home by that time. Never even had keys to the house. Owner sent me letter stating that I would be responsible for monthly rent until they find someone else to rent it since i "vacated the premises before the lease was up!????". Even though we never got keys/moved in..Is this legal?

I have a bi-polar mother who has been leaving crazy threatening voice messages and emails, to the point that I had to put a restraining order on her to protect my 13 yr old son and I. Someone in my apt had let her in the security gate because she LOOKS like a nice lady, (but she seriously physically and menatlly abused me as a child, and her recent craziness has brought back up the fears I had of her.) and so she showed up at our front door :( My manager won't let me post a pic of her in the laundry room w a note saying to not let her in, because he says it will cause a panic. She does own a gun, and she is supposed to turn it in due to restraining order, but I heard that she can get around that. Our windows are 5 ft from the major street we live on, and I am very fearful that she is going to do something. Is there any way I can get out of my lease which doesnt end until end of June 2007 due to all this?

I purchased a condo about 4 years ago. After owning it for about 1.5 years I bought a home and moved into it and rented the condo. So I have two mortgages, one for the condo and I owe $193k on it and my monthly payments are $1819, and one for my home which I owe $188k and pay $1343/month. I tried selling the condo for 6 months in 2007 (listed at $215k and lowered it to $199k) but had no buyers so I rented it again. I am only getting $1500/month from the renter and having to cover the extra costs. The condo mortgage is a 3 year ARM that has already reset and is currently 5.75%. Last years tax assessment value on the condo was $179k but this year it went up to $245k! So the condo is going up in value. How can I get rid of this condo? My renter is moving out on Feb 27th. I can't afford the condo anymore. Thanks!

My husband and I are going to look at a house tonight. It is being sold buy a real estate company, but I just found out that it is a bank foreclosure. I'm not sure what this means for us if we decide we want to make a bid. They are asking $89,000. It has 1.1 acres of land and is 4 bedroom 1 1/2 bath. The realtor I spoke to said it is in a housing complex, but just happens to have a large piece of land. She also said it needs work. The kitchen is old, needs new carpet, and painted. Any thoughts on what price we should have in our heads going into this?
I'd love to know any other thoughts you may have on buying a property like this.

Thanks a lot

With the foreclosure rate at an all time high. Especially in California. Why aren't the banks being more helpful to get these homes sold? I realize they have been burned by the foreclosure. It was their deceptive tactics that got them there in the first place. I would think they would lower rates, lower prices %100 financing and approve loans for people with good credit. Instead of accepting customers with excellent credit. There are 2 homes on my street that have been vacate for a year. Is this what they bank want? They are already out money. Leaving these homes vacate isn't putting money in their pockets either. What gives?

My husband & I have been renting this home for the past year. We have paid all bills that come to the home, about a week ago, we received a disconnect notice from the sewage company. They were going to turn off the sewage pump and render the home uninhabitable. We found out that we were not receiving the bills b/c the landlord still has the bill in his name and the bills were going to his office address. He refused to pay the bill so we did to avoid being expelled from our home. Can I legally with hold the amount that I paid for that bill from my next rental payment and be assured that we will not be evicted?

I am buying this house through an FHA loan. The inspector said that the house needed to be painted, some rotting boards needed to be replaced and a tree needed to be trimmed. We planned to do this when we moved in but it has to be done before it closes. The seller would take care of it but is strapped for cash. He has offered to take a certain amount of the selling price to fix the problems stated. What can I do to get this house?

I wanted to attend this property auction but I have some questions. First off let's say the property address and the owner address are the same. I am going to assume the owner still lives at the site. If this is so, do I then have to go through the eviction process if i win the bidding? Secondly, let's say I win the bidding on a house for $10,000. I pay the money and the property is mine right? Are there any hidden costs such as if the people owe a mortgage, will I also assume that cost? Will any other costs be disclosed at the time of the auction? Help please! Thanks!
